My First Time
Sweaty palms, butterflies in my stomach and a feeling I was going to do everything wrong was what my first time was like. There’s so much pressure and nerves when you photograph your first wedding.
Mine was back in 2010 for a friend of my Dad’s. They wanted to do things slightly cheaper so getting a student photographer was a good idea. In hindsight this wedding was perfect for me to have as my first time. I knew the bride and groom so felt comfortable around them and their family, they didn’t seem to uptight about things and basically let me photograph them how I wanted, so as with the rest of my work I chose to photograph them in a documentary way.
All in all the day went really well, I ended up taking over 300 photos as I was so nervous I was going to miss a vital moment. But doing this wedding made me realise that I really enjoyed photographing people’s special days, whether it was an event or a wedding, and really gave me the passion to shoot more.
The only downside was that the day was a bit rushed and un organised, getting everyone together for the photos was near impossible, this is where a good maid of honour or best man comes in handy to rally the troops. Other than that I was really happy how it went and think I managed to capture their sense of fun.
Congratulations to Dawn and James Humphries!
