A Family Affair
I don’t often see my family from my mother’s side, but on the 16th of April 2010 we all came together to celebrate my Auntie Vicky getting married to Phil Pickford. For me this was an exciting day as I had recently met my Auntie again for the first time in years and discovered we were more alike than I realised and we bonded over our love of pints and English literature, and my soon to be Uncle was just as lovely.
The wedding was an intimate and friendly affair, with such a nice atmosphere about it. The ceremony took place in Winchester town hall and the reception was in a gorgeous country pub that totally suited the happy couple. I loved my Aunties theme of a slightly 50′s feel with the men in tuxedos and the bridesmaids in little black dresses, it looked classy yet everyone seemed completely comfortable and at ease, which created a fantastic mood. Everything was so laid back that it was the perfect weekend for me to catch up with my family, and get to know my new Uncle and the Pickford’s a lot better.
As soon as I was invited I hoped that my Auntie would let me take the wedding photographs, as I wanted to gain more experience shooting weddings, and I also wanted a chance to get some more up to date family photographs. To reflect the theme of the wedding I shot the event in a very causal manner, I didn’t want too many posed, staged images, I went for a more documentary feel and in post production I made them look a bit more vintage with a slightly faded quality to relate to the 50′s theme. Below are a few examples of my personal favourites.
Congratulations Mr and Mrs Pickford!
