Assistant Wedding Photographer
I love photographing weddings and really want to do a lot more in the next year so I thought it would be a good idea to see if I could get a job as an assistant to a wedding photographer. Through a contact at my day job, I was offered to work with Steve Lacey, please see the end of this post for a link to his website.
I was initially really nervous as I had not met him before and had never been am assistant, but I felt this would be a really valuable way to learn new skills and ways to photograph and deal with the problems of being a wedding photographer as I could watch and learn.
The wedding took place in Farnham between a lovely couple called Lisa and Don. They were both so warm and welcoming and their wedding was the perfect mix of elegant and relaxed. Steve himself really put me at ease and I was surprised at how much he let me shoot. I was in charge of the detailed shots of the rooms, the groom getting ready and him with his family and then I just did what I like to do best and blend in to the background, and personally believe I got some beautiful relaxed candid shots.
Overall, this was the most comfortable I have felt at a wedding and really felt my confidence grow by learning a lot from Steve. I hope to work with him again as it was so handy having two photographers, but I now feel 110% photographing a whole event by myself.
